Product Review: ELES Mineral Makeup Mineral Matte Shadow & Powder Liner Pencil

I am hopelessly conservative with my eye makeup, always wearing neutral colours. I often get drawn in by makeup bright colours, looking all pretty in the packaging, but mostly find that it is a waste of my money buying it, as it will just sit untouched as I again and again reach for my neutral toned makeup. Consequently I was excited when I was asked to trial the ELES Mineral Makeup Mineral Matte Shadow in Sand & Powder Liner Pencil in Tornado. Here are my thoughts;

What They Say:
"ELES Cosmetics Mineral Matte Shadow: A range of ‘modern matte’ eye shadows clinically formulated for the fragile eye area. The ELES Mineral Matte Shadows add a new dimension to eye makeup. Pearlescent undertones inject a slight hint of shimmer into the matte formula for the ultimate ‘matte glow’ effect."

RRP: $26.90 (2.3g) – Available from ELES Mineral Makeup or select stockists

"ELES Mineral Makeup Powder Liner Pencil: Clinically formulated to provide smooth easy lining with creamy rich colour this dual-ended eye liner pencil glides over eyes without dragging or slipping, delivering a soft powdery finish that will last all day. The unique formula contains Titanium Dioxide, a natural mineral for protection and staying power and Candelilla Wax, which provides soft and supple application."

RRP: $43.25 – Available from ELES Mineral Makeup or select stockists

What I Say:
I recently tried the ELES Mineral Makeup Blush, which I’ve fallen so in love with that it is my currently most reached for blush that was so excited to also be trying the eye shadow and eye liner as well.

The ELES Cosmetics Mineral Matte Shadow in the colour sand is as the name suggests a subtle sandy shade, which is perfect to use either on its own swept over the eyelid as a just a touch of colour, or as a base for  other colours when creating a smoky eye.

In spite of my combination skin, when using a primer first, this eye shadow stays put all day without creasing of fading, and even in the end of the day it looks as if it has just been applied.

And having very sensitive eyes that easily get irritated and water, I love that the ELES eye mineral shadows are hypoallergenic and also contain vitamins A, E and C to help condition and protect the eyelids, and even better that they do not contain any chemical nasties including talc, dyes or fragrances.
The eye shadow has such a nice formula, and it is very easy to blend, and it is very pigmented, so while it is possible to get just a wash of colour, it can easily be built up for a more intense look.

The eye shadow comes in a small round silver compact with a clear lid so you can see the colour of the eye shadow. The compact doesn’t include a mirror or a brush, but as I prefer using my own this does not bother me.

What I like:
  • It is the perfect colour to use on its own, or as a base for other colours
  • It has a beautiful texture that is easy to blend, giving a natural look which can easily be built up
  • That it is made from mineral with no added chemical nasties
  • It is hypoallergenic and super gentle, even for sensitive eyes like mine
  • It stays put all day without fading

What I Don’t Like
  • It is a little expensive for such a small eye shadow that doesn’t come with a mirror or brush (but I really don’t mind as I prefer using my own brushes and never apply eye shadow on the go anyway).

The ELES Cosmetics Mineral  Powder Liner Pencil in Tornado is dark chocolate brown in colour, which is perfect for a subtle daytime look, used on the top lash line to define the eyes as well as on the bottom lash line. The pencil is dual-ended with a smudger in one end.

As mentioned above, I have extremely sensitive eyes, but eye liner is so creamy that it is so easy to apply without dragging over the sensitive eye area. It leaves a nice powdery finish that can be easily smudged out.

ELES claims that the pencil is long wearing, and it really does stay put all day without sliding of fading. I also tried to use this on my water line, something that I rarely do as it simply irritates my eyes, but happy to say that has not been the case with the ELES Powder Liner Pencil, and in spite of being so creamy (and my eyes watering several times during the day!), it still stayed put all day.

What I Like
  • It is so easy to apply, staying put all day
  • It is gentle, so suitable for my sensitive eyes
  • The perfect colour for a day time look
  • It is made from natural mineral with no added chemical nasties

What I don’t Like
  • The price, at $43.25 this is bit expensive for an eye liner, even in such a high quality.

All in all, I love these products from ELES. The colours are right up my alley, and what I use on a daily basis, and combined they give me a look that is perfect for daytime wear.

I also love the fact that they do not contain any chemical nasties, and are so gentle on the eyes, so if you can afford it, these high quality mineral products are well worth the splurge – I for one will be sure to check out the rest of the ELES product range!
