Product Review: Estee Lauder Pure Color EyeShadow Palette in Pretty Naughty

I absolutely love Estee Lauder products, so I am excited when new ones hit the shelves. A short time ago I told you about Estee Lauder launching their spring makeup collection, Pretty Naughty. Here are my thoughts on the limited edition *Estee Lauder Pure Color Five Color EyeShadow Palette in Pretty Naughty;

What They Say:
EyeShadow palette created by Tom Pecheux for the ultimate eye expression.  A high-style mix of textures and shades to inspire creative blending, highlighting and colour accenting. Release your inner artist. This versatile 5-colour palette allows you to play with intensities, mix and blend shades, express different attitudes-soft to bold.

RRP: $90 – Available from Estee Lauder Counters, or Estee Lauder Online

What I Say:

In Line with the rest of the Estee Lauder product range, the Pure Color Eyeshadow palette comes in a luxurious and shiny gold case with the EL logo printed on top in matte gold, it is nice and stylish, and you definitely won’t be ashamed leaving it out on the bathroom vanity!

The gold case is a little bulky, but it is sturdy and feels durable, so you shouldn’t need fear it will break if you put it in your handbag. It comes with a large mirror, which makes touch-ups on the go easy, and it also has two double ended applicators inside the compact, a double ended one with a sponge on either end, and another one with a sponge applicator in one end and a brush in the other. My only small issue is that I find the compact a little difficult to open as it is a little tight, so I need to use a nail which consequently chipped my nail polish. – But on the positive if you do take it in your handbag, at least there is no need to worry that it pops open.

The Pure Color Eyeshadow Palette comes with five colours, four larger ones, and a smaller darker one in the center. The shadows come in a variety of finishes; a matte aqua blue, a medium pale pink and a lavender which both have a subtle sheen, a medium brown/bronze which has slightly more shimmer, and finally a small dark charcoal grey shadow in the centre, which has even larger glittery particles.

And not overly fond of too glittery shadows, as I feel it highlights the lines and creases around my eye area, so I like that there is only one glittery shadow, as I can tone it down, and still get good use out of all the colours in the palette.

In spite of being shimmery/glittery they do not have any fallout and you end up with glitter under your eyes and on your cheeks.

The pastel colours are so lovely together and make for the perfect spring and summer look. The brown/bronze works brilliantly as a highlighter brightening the look, while you can add just a touch more of the charcoal grey defines the eye creates more a smoky eye, for a night-time look.

Common for all five colours is that they are all extremely easy to blend, and as they are very pigmented, it is easy to both apply just a wash of colour, or build up the colour for a more intense look. The simply apply velvety smooth, and stay put all day without fading or creasing.

What I Like:
  • The shadows blend easily, and the colour can easily be built up
  • It wears all day, even on my greasy eyelids
  • The five colours allow for a multitude of different looks

What I Don’t Like:
  • That the compact is a little bulky
  • It is a little difficult to open the compact

Overall, this is a lovely palette, with colours that are so on-trend –and even for someone as conservative as me with their eye makeup, it is very wearable as the colours are so easy to blend.  The colours work so well together in countless combinations, but are perfect on their own too.  At $90 this is not a cheap palette, but considering you get five shadows or such a high quality that even on my greasy eyelids the colours say put all day, I do find that it is good buy as with just this one palette you’re ready to take on spring!
