One of those brands I've always loved is Mesoestetic as the product are so advanced and so efficient, so when one of their newest innovations, the AOX Ferulic landed on my desk I was quite excited to put it to the test.
The Mesoestetic AOX Ferulic is an advanced antioxidant and protective system to help counter cellular oxidation and skin ageing with instant, lasting action. It contains among others;
- Ferulic Acid, 0.5% for an overall antioxidant action, providing protection of fibroblasts against UVA radiation.
- Ascorbic Acid, 15% - a pure vitamin C that helps neutralise free radicals that cause oxidation, and help increase collagen synthesis in the skin to improve the skin's elasticity and firmness, and give it a brighter and more uniform tone.
- Protech-Cell Complex, 1.5%: an exclusive complex of vitamin E plus a synthetic active ingredient to provide advanced antioxidant protection. Helps protect against oxidation of protective epidermal lipids as well as protect against infrared radiation (IR) and visible light (HEV)
- The serum also promises to provide a biological shield against oxidation produced by UVB, UVA, IR and visible light (HEV), as well as it helps to prevent and work against oxidative cell damage while protecting fibroblasts and improving collagen fibre synthesis. It also helps to protect the natural antioxidant system and barrier function of the skin while helping to prevent photo and chrono-ageing, for a skin that is more radiant looking skin with improved texture and tone
According to Mesoestetic, 'Oxidation is the main cellular process that causes tissue ageing and visible signs of skin ageing. It is an endogenous process that accelerates as a result of environmental factors such as sun exposure, pollution and ozone as well as lifestyle factors including sleep disorders, artificial light, eating habits, stress, chemical agents and smoking. Oxidative stress is when the amount of free radicals exceeds the antioxidant defences, damaging the DNA and causing oxidation of the epidermal lipids and proteins, leading to cell deterioration. This in turn leads to signs of skin ageing such as age spots, wrinkles, loss of firmness, loss of moisture and nourishment, as well as dull and lacklustre skin.
The serum makes some big claims including;
- Reduction of free radicals - 94%
- Reduction of oxidation caused by IR radiation - 30%
- Duration of antioxidant protection. Lasting action - x8
- Firmness and general improvement of skin quality - 100%
- Radiance - 90%
The serum is intended for all skin types and is to be used, preferably in the morning, after cleansing and before the usual treatment serums, creams and sunscreens. It has a quite light consistency, that is easy to spread onto the skin, and it absorbs quickly and easily, without any greasiness. It comes in a small bottle with a little dropper that makes it easy to use. It is quite concentrated, so for my face and neck, I'd use less than a third of the pipette full, so the small bottle will last you quite some time.
I have been used to using various vitamin C serums regularly, so my skin was quite used to it, but clearly this one contains a more pure form, as within a few weeks of daily use, I could clearly see my dull and tired looking skin being significantly brighter and more glowing and radiant, as well as it has made it look softer and smoother. I am not really sure that I can tell any remarkable improvement when it comes to the firmness and elasticity of my skin, but perhaps, while I do classify myself in the anti-ageing age group, my skin is simply not 'saggy' enough to make a make a noticeable difference.
At just under $200, this serum concentrate is at the pricier end, which may make purchase difficult to justify. But from how I see it, it gives my skin such a healthy and radiant glow, that is resemblant of just walking out from having a facial...which these days will set you back on the other side of $100, at least...and when you look at it that way, this bottle will last you several months.
